Website Basics

All websites are not created equal, but there are basic components equal to each website.

All sites include the following:

• Graphic images (client provided)

• Title design and logo(client provided)

• Bars, buttons & backgrounds

• Links

• E-mail link

• Meta tags (search engines read tags & content in order to catalog your site)

• Promotion of your site to search engines - i.e. google business listing

• Testing of links (all links must work)

• Testing on various browsers to ensure consistency (your site must look consistent in all browsers)

Website Types

The various types of websites can be broken down into the following categories

Business Card Style

This type of website is for the most budget conscious yet it still provides information to the public when they are in search of your type of business. It's essential to have some form of presence on the internet - similar to that of a white pages telephone listing.

This type of site would include information typically found on a business card and could include your business logo and colors, business photo and a map of your location.

Brochure Style

This type of website (2 to 4 pages) typically consists of what you might find in a businesses brochure. i.e., Home page, brochure content and contact page. It would include photos, links, and business logo and colors.

Marketing Style

This type of website is (4 to 10 pages) is more in-depth providing more detailed information on your product or service. You'd find categories and sub-categories within this type of site with natural paths for those seeking more than summary type information. As with the previously described sites, this would also include photos, links and business logo and colors

E-Commerce Style

This type of website (11 pages and Up ) would include all the components of a marketing style web site plus a shopping cart which would manage your inventory. This type of site is very specialized. Options for shopping carts on a website are varied in many ways.

Domain Names & Hosting Services

The very first component to a website is the domain name and then hosting - the location on the internet where you files will be located. I do not provide registration services nor hosting services but can facilitate the purchase of both. I currently use and recommend Godaddy domain name registration and hosting. Please let Deb know if you would like a personal quote on these services.

Domain names are always registered in the name of the owner of the domain. Clients are always provided hosting login information.
